Pathophysiology and Pharmacology for Nursing Practice 2 is the second unit that facilitates an understanding of both pathophysiology and pharmacology and builds on the foundations established in Pathophysiology and Pharmacology for Nursing Practice 1. This unit examines systemic physiological processes, pharmacological considerations, and associated alterations across the life span. Topics covered include advanced concepts in relation to pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, drug interactions, adverse drug effects and clinical considerations in relation to fluids and electrolytes and the neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory and reproductive system.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Interpret knowledge of pathophysiology and pharmacology in relation to presentations through the lifespan/age related difference;
2. Demonstrate knowledge of pathophysiology and pharmacology in relation to the reproductive system;
3. Integrate knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology in relation to fluids and electrolytes;
4. Synthesise comprehensive knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology in relation to the respiratory system;
5. Synthesise comprehensive knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology in relation to neurological and cardiovascular systems; and
6. Evaluate and apply comprehensive knowledge of pathophysiology and pharmacology in relation to case studies.
