UC Indigenous Australian HDR Stipend Scholarship
The Indigenous Australian Higher Degree by Research Stipend Scholarship supports engaged and ambitious indigenous applicants to undertake a PhD or Master by Research course.
How to Apply?
Apply through the HDR Application Portal.
Funding and duration
$35,000 per annum (tax-free) stipend up to four years for a doctoral course and two years for a masters course.
$10,000 of research funding is available to be used for any cost related to the project.
Eligibility
- enrolled, or seeking to enrol, as a full-time candidate in a Higher Degree by Research course at the ¶¶ÒõPorn;
- meet the requirements for admission; and
- identify as an Indigenous Australian.

W J Weeden Postgraduate Research Scholarship
This Scholarship is generously funded by the family of the late W J Weeden.
How to Apply?
Apply through the HDR Application Portal.
Funding
- $35,000 per annum (2024 rate, tax-free) stipend to assist with living costs, indexed annually.
- reimbursement of Overseas Health Cover (OSHC for single person). Further details in the Conditions of Award.
- International candidates will also be awarded an RTP Fee Offset scholarship to cover tuition fees.
Duration
- 3.5 years
Eligibility
- completed a Bachelor degree with First Class Honours, or be regarded by the University as having an equivalent level of attainment
- be enrolled, or seeking to enrol, as a full-time candidate in a Doctor of Philosophy course at the University
- domestic student (Australian citizen or permanent resident, New Zealand citizen) or international student.

Australian Research Training Program Fees Offset Scholarship
Eligibility
- domestic student (Australian citizen or permanent resident, New Zealand citizen)
- applying for or currently undertaking a Higher Degree by Research course (PhD, Professional Doctorate, Masters by Research).
- A RTP Fees Offset Scholarship may be offered to international HDR candidates whose application for an RTP, University-funded or W J Weedon stipend scholarship has been assessed as competitive by the University Research Scholarship Committee.
How to Apply?
- No application required for domestic candidates.
- International RTP, University-funded or W J Weedon stipend scholarship recipients may be awarded a RTP Fee Offset Scholarship. No application required.

UC CIRI Scholarship Program
Established in 2016 by UC CIRI, this scholarship program has been set up to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying at UC who are pursuing a course of study beyond a Bachelor Degree.

2024 Joint PhD Scholarship
Australian Institute of Health & Welfare – University Canberra
Our aim is to develop doctoral students who will prosper in careers in Australia’s data-skilled workforce. This PhD scholarship program provides opportunities for outstanding postgraduate students with demonstrated academic and research excellence to further their careers in addressing ‘real world’ issues that have impact on practice and policy.
The area of the PhD Program is “Potentially preventable hospitalization pathways (PPHs) and measures” and will test the usefulness of PPHs as an indicator of the effectiveness of primary care and investigate the potential for developing new metrics that could be used for ongoing monitoring of the interface between primary and acute care. The successful candidate will be enrolled into our flagship PhD Plus programme and be integrated into high performing academic teams in a world class research environment.
PhD candidates will be awarded a scholarship stipend of $35,000 per annum (and indexed), comprising a tax-free living allowance for 3.5 years. In addition, there will be an option for casual employment at the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
Research areas
The successful candidates will be supervised jointly by staff at AIHW and UC.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:
- meet the ¶¶ÒõPorn’s admission requirements;
- meet residency requirements for a domestic student;
- not be currently enrolled in a PhD program at another university at the time of application;
- apply as a full-time candidate;
- have obtained the equivalent of a Master’s degree by research or 1st Class honours degree in a related subject to the above research area(s) with experience of using SAS and with quantitative skills.
- Be available to start full-time in February 2024 (Semester 1)
Successful candidates can be located on the UC campus in Bruce.

CSIRO Industry PhD scholarship program
CSIRO's Industry PhD (iPhD) Program brings together an industry partner, a university and Australia’s leading science agency, CSIRO, to co-develop a four-year industry-focused PhD project. It provides PhD students with a unique skill set to focus on impact driven research.
How to Apply?

Geospatial Modelling of Dengue Co-Funded Stipend Ph D Scholarship
The Geospatial Modelling of Dengue is awarded to an applicant of exceptional research potential undertaking a PhD on the Public Health. This PhD project aims to investigate the impact of climate change on the transmission of dengue fever in the Asia Pacific region.

Elite Editing Thesis Write-up Scholarship
How to Apply?
- Applications will open on 1 January and close on 30 June each year.

Funding
- For students who do not hold another scholarship, a stipend of $1,000 per fortnight for six fortnights ($6,000 in total), tax free.
- For students who do hold another scholarship, a stipend of $600 per fortnight for six fortnights ($3,600 in total), tax free.

Eligibility
- Students must be enrolled full time in a research degree (Masters or PhD) at an Australian or New Zealand university.
- Part-time students are eligible to apply for the scholarship only in circumstances where the applicant is able to demonstrate heavy carer commitments or a medical condition that precludes them from studying full time.

Fullbright Postgraduate Scholarships
Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarships allow postgraduate students undertaking their Australian PhD to conduct research in the U.S. OR supports postgraduate students not currently enrolled in a degree program to undertake a U.S. postgraduate program such as a master’s or PhD or conduct a period of research towards their Australian PhD.

Fulbright Indigenous Scholarships (funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency)
The Fulbright Indigenous Scholarship is for an Indigenous student/scholar to undertake a research program in the U.S. Scholarships are available in any field of academic study, across any category – postgraduate, postdoctoral or scholar.
This scholarship was established to recognize Indigenous leaders’ commitment to achieving excellence, while seeking an international perspective and collaboration through their studies/research.

Elevate: Boosting Women in STEM
The Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering’s (ATSE) will award up to 500 undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships over six years to women in STEM. The Elevate Program aims to address gender inequities in STEM through fostering more women-led industry-academia collaborations in applied research and business, growing professional skills of women in STEM and propelling women into leadership.
Applications open – 2025 Program
Applications close at 5:00pm (AEST) 30 August 2024.
Applications for the Elevate program commencing in 2026 will reopen in early 2025.
Eligibility:
Applicants are required to meet three eligibility criteria:
- Identify as a woman or non-binary person
- Be enrolling as a domestic student
- Be planning to undertake a STEM degree, PhD or higher studies to improve business acumen at an Australian university, commencing in 2025
ATSE particularly encourages applications from individuals who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; individuals from regional, rural or remote areas; LGBTQIA+; individuals from culturally or linguistically diverse backgrounds; low-socioeconomic backgrounds; or those living with a disability. 2025 ¶¶ÒõPorn Health Research Institute PhD Scholarships (Indigenous Tobacco Control)
This scholarship opportunity aims to develop the health leaders of the future. Students will use research to answer ‘real world’ questions and issues that have impact on practice and policy related to Indigenous tobacco control in Australia.
The successful candidate will be enrolled into our flagship PhD Plus programme and be integrated into high performing academic teams in a world class research environment.
Research areas
The successful candidates will be supervised by Dr Penney Upton and Dr Thrishila Parshu Ram, who provide technical support to the National Best Practice Unit Tackling Indigenous Smoking (NBPU TIS). NBPU TIS is a consortium led by Ninti One, an Indigenous owned not for profit organisation. Consortium members include UC-HRI and the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet based at Edith Cowan University. Funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, NBPU TIS is one element of the successful Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) program. This scholarship will provide opportunities to link into the consortium and the TIS program and to learn from key stakeholders and experts in Indigenous tobacco control. We would be particularly interested in research proposals in the following areas:
- Social marketing campaigns to increase awareness and uptake of Quit support (smoking and/or vaping) in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities;
- Using social media for tobacco control or anti-vaping activities;
- Tobacco control in remote and very remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities;
- Supporting smoke/vape free environments (at home, car or workplace);
- Addressing health inequities through tobacco control policies;
- Supporting recruitment, retention and career development of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tobacco control workforce.
